Consumers want safer meat and the industry certainly needs help from Congress before the industry’s lawyers and lobbyists send it over a cliff.

This legislation is supported by scientists, consumers and victims of food-borne illness. In fact, the National Academy of Sciences recently called on Congress to “grant the federal agencies clear authority to establish, implement and enforce food safety criteria, including performance standards.” With the leadership of this bi-partisan team of legislators, Congress must pass meaningful pathogen reduction legislation this year.
